May 30,  · I downloaded the drivers (ddexe) from Kodak's support site and did the installation (with the camera disconnected). When I connect the camera through the USB port (this is the only USB device I am using), XP goes through the process of detecting new hardware (it indicates that the device is Kodak DVC ) and starts installing the ted Reading Time: 2 mins. That said, I've been very frustrated in using it as it often shifts back and forth between a correct exposure, and an intensely red picture, as if everything was glowing reddish orange.

This looks horrid and isn't acceptible. I've messed with the settings and found that lowering the saturation seems to do the trick. I tried it under a florescent light for the first time tonight and that seemed to work fine. Perhaps it's just incandescent light that causes the problem.

Another very frustrating aspect, especially if you're on a webcam site, is that focusing is very difficult. You must delicately turn a wheel on the cam itself and then wait to see the picture, adjust, wait, adjust, etc.

It takes quite a lot of time to get the hang of it. Adding to the frustration is the fact that every time you move the camera to a different angle or position, you have to go through the same process to try to bring it into focus. As far as still images go, I think they're very good quality for this level of cam. Beware of trying to take any sort of hand held picture however, as the only way to trip the shutter is to either click a button on your mouse to click a buttton on the screen, or to push the shutter button on the cam itself.

Needless to say, this is VERY difficult to press the button, maintain your focus and aim. But if it's sitting on something or tripod mounted, the quality is very good. It seems well made, and the software is relatively simple, though the controls and adjustments are a bit shaky.

The above are the only negatives I've found, and otherwise it is a fine camera. When you consider it's price, it makes it an even better bet if you're not up for throwing a large chunk of money at a web cam. One person found this helpful. This webcam was my second choice after Philips toucam pro After learning from Philips representative that was discontinued, at least in US, I hit google to look for Kodak dvc From numerous reviews it believed to have one of the best image qualities.

Comparable to 3 com home connect also discontinued. This is my first webcam and video chat is the only purpose I will be using it for. Until now I was using my minidv canon elura. So that is the only one I can compare it too.

Canon was getting extremely hot when left on for hours. So it was time to get a webcam. The image quality compared great for video chat. I would get around 15fps at x I am ordering a second one. I thought of giving it 4 stars because there is no auto focus, but then I never needed to adjust it in the last 2 month. Actually, it may be even a good thing, that there is no bad-implemented auto focus, so picture keeps stable. Few things on a whish list: firewire instead of usb, off button for times you are not in the mood , higher resolution not sure yet what that would be for.

Future support is in question. Folks, I bought this webcam years ago, and I've since used many other webcams, but the Kodak DVC is still my favorite to-date. I did have a problem installing driver for one of my computers. I have a valuable story and some pointers too about it to tell you. I started using it many years ago , ? No problem whatsoever. Still no problem. I then had a laptop. Driver from Kodak. No problem here either. In the beginning of I had a new desktop, Pentium IV 3.

It freezes the computer when installing the driver exactly as the person below me describes. Almost 1. I tried again same computer system. Still froze when installing driver. But then I found a different driver for it on Driverguide. The filename was 'dvcw2k. Download it, folks. Unzip it to a folder. Remove all previously installed DVC drivers and software if applicable. Plug the camera in. You'll see a '? Right click and choose 'Update Driver'. Manually search, blah blah blah The image quality is great.

Clarity, resolution, colors, exposure control, etc. Give it another shot. I tried this on all usb ports, multiple times, all resulting in having to hold the power button to recycle the computer. On one instance, it even locked it such that I had to physically remove the power I am not sure how they froze the bios routine that polls the power switch, but they did.

This little warrior worked OK for several years. I've owned for near a decade and it worked OK. It has more resolution that some current cameras but it has reached its End of Life and now Kodak doesn't support it anymore. What does it mean? No more drivers for Vista. It didn't work very well on XP though. See all reviews.
